Frequently asked questions

What is the ex-dividend date?
The first day the share trades without the right to the dividend. To collect it, you must hold the shares at the close of the previous trading day. The money arrives a few days later, on the payment date. On the ex-date the share price usually falls by roughly the dividend amount.
What is dividend yield and how is it calculated?
It is the dividends per share the company has paid over the last twelve months (counted by ex-date), divided by the current price. A 5% yield means that, at today's price, the last year's dividends are worth 5% of what the share costs. It looks backwards: future dividends may be bigger, smaller or none.
Are the amounts gross or net?
Gross, as announced by the company. In Spain, 19% is withheld on payment as an advance on income tax: from a €1 gross dividend you receive €0.81. Foreign companies listed on the continuous market apply their own country's withholding.
Where does the data come from and how often is it updated?
Dividends paid and their gross amounts come from Yahoo Finance; the dates of upcoming dividends from TradingView, and the gross amount of an announced dividend is worked out from the net amount TradingView gives using the withholding on the same company's last payment, which must match Yahoo. Prices are refreshed every ten to fifteen minutes during market hours and each company's history once a day.
What does «to be confirmed» mean?
That the expected amount is more than one and a half times the largest dividend the company has paid in the last two years. It may be an announced special dividend or an estimate from the source that has not been confirmed yet: check the company's website or the CNMV before deciding anything.
