Frequently asked questions

What is an economic calendar?
It's the list of macroeconomic data released each day (inflation, employment, interest rates, GDP, sales, confidence…) with the time, the country, what analysts expect and the previous value. These are the releases that move stocks, currencies and crypto.
What do “Forecast”, “Previous” and “Actual” mean?
The forecast is the analysts' consensus for that figure; the previous, the value for the prior period; and the actual, what has been released. The market reacts mostly to the gap between actual and forecast: a big surprise moves it more than bad data that was already expected.
Which releases matter most?
Those marked high importance: in the US, CPI (inflation), the jobs report (non-farm payrolls), Federal Reserve rate decisions and GDP; in the euro area, CPI and ECB decisions. They're the ones that usually move the market most.
What time are they released?
Times are Madrid (CET/CEST). US data usually comes out at 14:30 and euro-area data in the morning.
